3. Shelter in Place

When Stanford GSB moved online in March, faculty and staff moved quickly: 125 class sections went virtual in 72 hours. Student groups organized more than 200 online social events to stay connected.

7. Addressing Systemic Racism

We launched the Stanford GSB Action Plan for Racial Equity to address racial inequality within our community and beyond, after listening to the stories of our Black students, alumni, staff, and faculty. We have been inspired by the energy of the GSB community to work together toward racial equity across our country and the world.

As students, staff, faculty, and alumni logged on from around the world, we remember that it’s not the buildings, classroom, trees, or walkways that make up our campus. It’s the people. ⁣

9. Smoke-Filled Skies

Between the pandemic, the catastrophic wildfires, and an electrical fire that cut off Stanford GSB’s power, orientation week in mid-September was a reminder that the new school would require creative problem-solving in the face of novel challenges.

10. A New MBA Class

We welcomed 436 new MBA students in the fall of 2020. Members of the class of 2022 come from 66 countries and nearly 300 organizations. Nearly half (47%) are women.

11. Nobel Prize

In October, Professors Robert Wilson and Paul Milgrom were awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics. A home security camera captured Milgrom on Wilson’s doorstep at 2:15 a.m., delivering the historic news to his friend, neighbor, and colleague.

In early November, Rebecca Jacobson, MBA ’22, was one of many MBA students who gathered (safely) outdoors and took to the phones to encourage fellow citizens to vote.
